In this era of globalization, the role and importance of media has increased manifolds in bringing the issue of human rights and child protection into the limelight. To encourage the media personals to handle the issue of child sexual abuse in a more meaningful way, Sahil started to appreciate the contribution of newspaper because of standard and sensitive reporting on the child protection issues.

Sahil is also awarding its volunteers for their contribution towards the cause; the cadre of volunteers is a proof of people’s commitment for the issue and the credibility of the organization. 

In this regard, Sahil conducted its 5th ceremony of Child Friendly Newspaper Award 2009 and best volunteer award 2009 in Marriott Islamabad on 25 March 2010.
 

Syed Mumtaz Alam Gilani, Federal minister for Human Rights and his Excellency Mr Robert Kvile, Ambassador of Norway joined Sahil as honorable guests.

Federal
Minister for Human Rights Syed Mumtaz Gilani awarded newspapers with their respective awards and cheques.

Special certificates were given to Daily Dawn, Daily Times, Daily Jinnah, Daily Jang and Daily Nawa-e-Waqt. 

         

 Mr. Amjad Ali from Swabi, was declared as the Best Volunteer for the year 2009.

                                  

In the special mention category, one volunteer from each province was selected to acknowledge their efforts towards the goal of Sahil. The volunteers who were awarded in this category were

Mr Robet Kvile distributed certificates and award shields among volunteers. 

   

Chairperson Sahil, Mr. Khawar Saeed Ansari presented souvenirs to Syed Mumtaz Alam and Mr. Robert Kvile. While Syed Mumtaz Alam Gilani presented souvenirs to Mr. Khawar Saeed and Executive Director Sahil, Ms Manizeh Bano.

A total of 147 participants, 36 from media, 59 from different organizations, civil society and universities participated in the ceremony including Sahil staff.
