To encourage the media personnel and volunteers to handle the issue of child sexual abuse in a more meaningful way, Sahil conducted it’s fourth Child Friendly Newspaper Award and Best Volunteer Award 2008. The purpose of this award is to appreciate the contribution of newspapers on sensitive reporting and its volunteers dealing with issue and promoting awareness among masses to create profound impact on society. 

This ceremony was conducted on March 25, 2009 in the hall of National Library Islamabad.

Chief Guest of the ceremony was Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari State Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Guest of Honor was Mr. M. Z. Sohail, Director International Relations PTV Islamabad.

 In this ceremony, Sahil also launched its research report

           “A Hidden Reality Unveiled: Public Perceptions on Child Sexual Abuse”.

Two Puppet shows titled "Choti Choti Baatain" for primary level children and "Mere dard ko jo zuban milay" for adolescents were also held on this occasion to create awareness among participants and children about the issue of CSA and its prevention.  

375 participants 60 from media, 150 children from different schools, 17 from ministry of information and broad casting and 130 people from different organizations participated in the ceremony including Sahil staff. 

The ceremony offers following objectives: 

  • To share the situation of child sexual abuse in Pakistan and preventive initiates by Sahil.
     
  • To encourage and appreciate media to unveil social evils and identify the child protection issues like sexual abuse, exploitation and labor.
     
  • To sensitize community on the protective issues of the children like health, education, food, shelter, sexual abuse and exploitation etc. 
     
  • To enable media for the dissemination of information on the issues of child protection to gain a deeper understanding of the tools at their disposal to develop a protective environment for children in Pakistan. 
     
  • To allow to have better understanding of the indicators of crimes against children in the region and discuss various solutions.
     
  • To contribute on how to use local media in a suitable way and gather the best practices on media participation for well being of the children.

First award in national newspapers category was given to Daily Express,  Mr. Iftikhar Chauhdry received this award on the behalf of his newspaper. 

Second award shield was given to Daily Din Lahore in regional category.  

Third award shield was given to Daily Kaavish Hyderabad in local newspaper category.
Mr. Mumtaz Bukhari received this award on behalf of his organization. 

The Best volunteer award for the year 2008 was given to Mr. Hidayat Ullah Laghari for his contribution towards the issue throughout the year.
