Sahil executed Mass Media
Awareness Project funded by Groupe Developpement. The main objective of
the project was to create awareness among the masses on child rights and
child protection.
Program Activities

Sahil developed four
new animations on trafficking, abduction, violence
and commercial sexual exploitation.
Two quarterly magazines were
published and distributed.

Sahil published Cruel Numbers 2008, the compilation of child sexual abuse cases
reported
in newspapers.

Development of English Version of BHAID, an Interactive game on
anger
management, child protection and adolescent issues. Urdu voice over was
also
developed for interactive sections.

Perceptions on Child Sexual Abuse”

Sahil organized Child
Friendly Newspaper Award 2008 to acknowledge the commitment of print media
towards children issues.

A live performance of 2 puppet shows “Choti Choti Batain” and “Meray Dard Ko Jo Zuban Milay” was presented. Sahil also
launched its research on “A Hidden Reality
Unveiled, Public Perception on Child Sexual Abuse”.
Total number of participants
was 460 including 120 children from schools and drop in centers.
Sahil Referral Units and Sahil Partnership Unit conducted
5 press briefings on Sahil Cruel Numbers - 2008 with print and electronic
media. A total of 80 media persons attended the event.
Three workshops on MenEngage - Involving men to end gender
based violence; two in Lahore and one at Sukku r
were conducted
for volunteers and youth groups.
A total of 60 volunteers and adults participated and a follow up
action plan was also prepared.
A one month awareness
campaign was conducted through cable networks in Sukkur, Khairpur,
Abbottabad and Lahore. To assess the effectiveness of the campaign 6000
questionnaires were distributed through cable operators and filled by
viewers. Analysis is in process.
A one month awareness
campaign was conducted on international air terminals of Islamabad,
Karachi and Lahore. To assess the effectiveness of the campaign 9000
questionnaires were distributed and filled by the passengers from the air
aviation staff. Analysis is in process.
A one month awareness
campaign on radio channels FM 99, 101 and Pakistan Broadcast Corporation was done from Islamabad,
Abbottabad and Jaffarabad. A total of 12 talk shows on CSA related issues
and services were aired. A set of 12 messages were aired 4 times daily.
After getting information from radio talk show, RU Jaffarabad received
offer for free skin treatment on need base from Mr. Tariq Hussain-lab
technician in Civil Hospital Jaffarabad.
A one monthly media campaign
having a promotional advertisement on Sahil’s services was done through national
newspapers, Jang, Express, Nawa-e-Waqt, Dawn, The News, and Daily Aaj Kal.
A public transport bus has
been painted showing services and messages regarding CSA for one year.

The
route of the bus is from Rawat to Taxila via Saddar Rawalpindi.
Development of Tools on
Sexual Behaviors for Street Children funded by Groupe Developpment (GD)
2008-09
Sahil under this project is
developing teaching tools on sexual behaviors of street children with the
main objectives to communicate on sensitive issues through creative and
interactive methods. The capacity of caregivers’ on information tool will
be built through trainings. The project is in final stage of execution.
