Research is an
important component of
Sahil programme.
Sahil is dedicated to
promote a greater
understanding on the
issue of CSA and its
implications on the
survivors. Sahil
conducts and publishes
a number of researches
each year on the
various dynamics of
CSA. Following is the
list of Sahil
published research studies:

Hidden Reality Unveiled - Public Perceptions on Child
Sexual Abuse

Sahil undertook this
research to fulfill an
essential need for
planning an
advocacy program. This report is based on findings of a country-wide
survey.
The
research explored
general public
perceptions on child
sexual abuse (CSA)
to see how it is understood and defined. Moreover, it has also tried to
assess
the means through which the general public receives information about the
issue and appraise their preferred modes of communication for messages on
prevention, intervention and protection against CSA.

This report is based
on CSA cases reported
in newspapers from the
year 2002-2006.Sahil
monitored 17
newspapers in 2002,
whereas 27 dailies
were being monitored
in 2003-2005. In the
year 2006, a total of
53 local, regional and
national dailies are
monitored.
This report also includes data
received by the organizations who are dealing directly with children.
These cases are not reported in the newspapers. The data shows all the
other forms of sexual abuse that have been experienced by the children
which are not reported in the newspapers.
Conversation with
mothers on Child
Sexual Abuse
The purpose of this
research was to find
out the level of
understanding of the
issue amongst the
mothers in the
community and to
create awareness
amongst the mothers
regarding prevention
and intervention of
CSA.
Drug Abuse and
Child Sexual Abuse in
Street Children
The research was
based on two and a
half months of study.
A total of 180
street
children were
interviewed with age
ranging from 6 to 18
years. This
research
was conducted in the
Federal Capital,
Rawalpindi, and Lahore
by
Sahil.
The other
provincial capitals
Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta were covered
with
the cooperation
of three NGOs Azad
foundation ,Pakistan
Pediatrics
Association
(PPA),
SPARC.

childhood: Male Child
Prostitution at a bus
stand in Pakistan
The research was a
pilot effort for Sahil
to pioneer into the
volatile and critical
areas of CSA, helping
to bring the reality of
these invisible
children to the world. Pir Vadai
bus stand (Rawalpindi)
was the area chosen
for this research.
The sample of the
study was restricted
to 15 interviews of
male child sex
workers, 7 local
clinics, 8 policemen,
70 community members
(shopkeepers,
residents, religious
leaders, bus drivers,
cobblers etc.), 2
pimps and 5 clients.
The research was
conducted 4 years
earlier, but for
ensuring
confidentiality and
security of the
respondents, it has
been published in
2004.
Teachers’ knowledge
attitude and practices
regarding child sexual
abuse
This research was
based on data
collected from primary
school teachers from
all over the country.
This research work was
in addendum to Sahil’s
teachers’ training
program on the book
Meri Hifazat (a story
cum coloring book).
The research was
conducted at national
level in all the
provinces of the
country. The schools
included for data
collection were from
public, private and
NGO sector. A total of
619 teachers were
interviewed for this
research.
Cruel Numbers
Cruel
Numbers is a
compilation of child
sexual abuse cases
reported in the 69
national newspapers,
which Sahil monitors;
on daily basis.
The aim of producing
these reports is to
inform the general
public and child
policy makers of
the incidents of child
sexual abuse (CSA) in
Pakistan. Also, it is
aiming to provide
information to all
stake holders in all
the sectors of society
for protection of
children.
Commercial Sexual
Exploitation study in Pindora community,
Rawalpindi

The objective of the
pilot project "An
anthropological glance
at Commercial sexual
exploitation of
children and Child
Sexual Abuse among a
gypsy community of Pindora" was to study
the changes
in the socialization process
and their involvement
in Commercial Sexual
Exploitation of
children and the high
risk of
CSA.
