SAHIL REGIONAL OFFICES
Sahil
Regional Offices (ROs) Interventions
Sahil 5 Regional offices, Rawalpindi/ Islamabad, Abbottabad, Sukkur, Jaffarabad, Lahore,
have been delivering services in their respective
districts.
Four
Regional offices of
Abbottabad,
Sukkur, Jaffarabad and Lahore have been staffed with a
Unit Coordinator, Officer Counseling, a part time Legal
consultant and office support staff.
Rawalpindi/ Islamabad Regional office is an addendum to the Head Office and
is supporting the Adiala Jail Intervention. It has a full time Program Officer
Legal Aid and Program Officer Counseling on its staff.
PROVISION OF LEGAL AID AT REGIONAL OFFICES
Child Sexual Abuse is deeply rooted in society and to curb this menace, it
requires not only change in social attitude through awareness but also
punishment of the abusers for committing this crime. Sahil as a part of
its mission to protect children provides free legal aid and assistance to
the victims of sexual abuse through its legal department.
During 2010, all Sahil 5 regional offices took up 104 cases of CSA
victims for providing free legal aid. Out of these 11 cases were
given conviction, 37 cases are pending, and 24 cases ended
with compromise.
PROVISION OF LEGAL AID TO JUVENILES
During 2010, a total of 23 legal cases of juveniles were selected
for providing legal aid. Out of these 6 juveniles were released, 4
juveniles were acquitted, one case was disposed off due to non
availability of challan, and 9 cases are pending. Unfortunately, 3
juveniles were convicted.
During 2008, a total of 17 juveniles cases were dealt by Sahil Referral
Units.
COUNSELING
SERVICES AT
REGIONAL OFFICES
During 2010,
Sahil 4
regional offices counselors provided counseling to 39 clients. A total
number of 27 clients contacted the counselors to obtain information
on different psychological issues.
MONITORING OF NEWSPAPERS
During 2010,
out of the total of 66 monitored
newspapers, 4 Sahil
regional offices teams, including 3 volunteers
,regularly monitor 51 daily local, national and regional newspapers
for the compilation of statistics on CSA published as Cruel Numbers.
PRESS BRIEFINGS AT
REGIONAL OFFICES
All 4 ROs conducted a total
of 7 press briefings on Sahil Cruel Numbers 2009 with print and electronic
media. A total of 133 media persons attended the events during 2010.
Six monthly data of January-June 2010 was
shared with the press and it was published in different local and national
newspapers.
NETWORKING & MEMBERSHIPS AT
REGIONAL OFFICES
Sahil ROs attended 160
networking meetings to develop coordination and referral system with other
organizations and Government Departments during 2010. As a result of these
meetings Sahil RO’s are advocating different issues at provincial level
and also receiving referrals for services.
