REFLECTION OF A BEGINNING

 Ten
years
ago, I sat and
pondered over the name
I would give the NGO I
wanted to create, to
heal child sexual
abuse. I wanted it to
be a name which
symbolized safety,
protection, stability
and most of all a
coming home for all
those children who
have visited the dark
corridors of pain,
shame, guilt and
confusion. A place,
where they could be
comforted, healed and
most of all hold their
head up high, knowing
that finally they had
come to a place where
there was no blame, no
judgment for them to
carry. Only love,
acceptance, protection
and justice.
Ten years later I am
filled with an
overwhelming sense of
wonder at the dream,
which manifested
itself in the form of
Sahil. I feel blessed
to have had the
opportunity to
establish and manage
the organization for
several years. When I
look back I can only
see the endless
learning opportunities
that Sahil provided
me. Lessons in love,
leadership, courage,
perseverance,
communication,
creativity and
understanding. And the
rarest of rare
opportunities, to
reach out to people
with understanding and
acceptance. For there
are many jobs that one
can do in the world
but one is
particularly blessed,
if one’s job provides
one with an
opportunity to reach
out and touch
another’s life in a
meaningful way.
I want to take this
opportunity to thank
Sahil’s Board of
Directors, its
Executive Director,
the Sahil team, our
donors, sponsors and
all the amazing Sahil
volunteers for their
commitment to the
issue, their
encouragement and the
wonderful work that
they continue to do
through Sahil. Thank
you for the powerful
ways in which all of
you provide hope,
support and protection
to the many children
of Pakistan who suffer
through no fault of
theirs. For an
organization
ultimately reflects
the team, that steers
it with wisdom,
determination and
creativity.
Whereas I can only
take credit for having
planted the seed, it
is all of you who
nurture Sahil. I am
particularly proud of
the direction Sahil
has taken over the
last three years under
the guidance of its
new Director Ms.
Manizeh Bano and her
team. Your commitment,
vision and hard work
have led Sahil to
heights, which I could
not even have
imagined. I am
eternally grateful to
all of you for turning
Sahil into a story of
awesome achievements
and milestones.
Congratulations to all
of you on Sahil’s
tenth anniversary. May
you have the courage
to continue to dream
the impossible and the
perseverance to see
your dreams flower.
May your desires be
guided by the highest
wisdom and may all
your endeavors bring
you great success.
